Minister for Health, Ong Ye Kung, shared on his Facebook page today urging parents to bring their children for vaccination.
He shares that many parents are still worried about their children receiving the vaccination but also understand the risk of getting infected by the virus and they are now weighing the pros and cons of being vaccinated.
The Minister also shared an image that shows the risks and benefits of vaccination for children in his Facebook post and also included some statistics of the pandemic situation and also the vaccination progress for children 12 and below in Singapore.
Here is what the Minister said
“Many countries are reporting spikes in children admission to hospitals due to COVID-19.
#Vaccination can prevent severe illnesses in children.
I have met parents who are worried about their children getting the jabs. They also understand the risks of infection, and are reweighing the pros and cons.
We have compiled a simple table on the risks and benefits of vaccination, versus infection. Hope it will help parents decide.
As of 21 Jan 2022, 17,699 children aged below 12 years old had been infected with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. 2,586 were hospitalised.
So far, more than 140,000 children under 12 years old have gotten their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. On average, about 6,000 children are vaccinated daily.”
