Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, is slated to arrive in Singapore this Sunday, to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation between the countries in various areas.
Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung revealed that she will not be subjected to a Stay-Home Notice and instead, will be subjected to regular testing as well as a controlled itinerary.
Harris’ visit to Singapore comes after US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin’s trip to the country last month.
Ong said in a press conference:
“In the past, we have had other dignitaries and we subject them to similar healthcare protocols.”
“Instead, as a principle, we know that we can always replace SHN with tests. Technically if you test every day, so long as it’s negative every day, you know that it’s safe for the person to move around.”
“We can’t do that for the entire population and therefore SHN and quarantine is often the other way for us to implement a nationwide healthcare measure.”
