People who are afraid of needles and injections, rejoice!
Oravax, the company that is working on the oral vaccine, said in a press release that the vaccine could be put through the first phases of human clinical trials as early as June 2021.
However, the success of an oral vaccine is not guaranteed, yet.
So far, the only test of an oral vaccine for Covid-19 administered to humans has failed.
Although the vaccine got encouraging results in animal trials; the company, Vaxart, received disappointing responses during first human trials.
The oral vaccines are designed to be easier for administration and distribution, and are developed to become “second generation vaccines”.
They could be shipped in a normal refrigerator and stored at room temperature as well.
