OVER 169 PEOPLE LOSE $2.7 MILLION TO TRAVEL REVIEW JOB SCAM

According to the Police media release, they received numerous reports where there were scammed a large amount of money from a fake job that requires the victims to do “travel reviews”.

The Singapore Police Force warns that the job scammers persuaded victims to engage in activities that allow them to earn commission by assessing tourist attractions and packages. At least 169 people have fallen victim to this fraud since January 2022, with losses totalling at least $2.7 million.

Identify the job scam

victims would get unwanted messages on messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram from fraudsters posing as job recruiters.

Scammers would pretend to be recruiting for positions that paid well for rating vacation attractions and packages. Scammers would pose as reputable travel organizations such as Anywhr, Sojern, American Lloyd, IPC Group, and Oriental Travel & Tours to convince the victims.

Victims who respond with an interest in the positions would be directed to sign up for accounts on the scammers’ fake websites. Victims would be expected to deposit funds onto their accounts in order to assess the attractions and receive commissions.
By the time the victims had deposited the money, it is long gone.
