In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Singapore’s law enforcement agencies have launched a month-long multi-agency enforcement operation, resulting in the investigation of 1,873 individuals. This initiative, which took place from November 16 to December 15, 2024, was designed to enhance public safety and reduce crime during the festive season.
The operation involved collaboration among various agencies, including the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Health Sciences Authority (HSA), National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore Customs, Land Transport Authority (LTA), and Singapore Food Agency (SFA). Over 2,600 officers participated, conducting more than 1,180 operations across the island.
The enforcement blitz targeted a wide range of illegal activities, with checks performed on over 13,200 individuals, leading to 610 arrests. The operations were strategically planned to bolster police presence and effectively address criminal behavior.
Notable operations included a series of joint enforcement actions in late November, where officers from the Central Police Division, along with CID and Traffic Police, focused on illicit activities in massage establishments and entertainment venues around Chinatown, Little India, and Bugis. This operation resulted in the arrest of 194 individuals for various offenses, including violations of the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act and the Gambling Control Act.
In another operation on December 5, Jurong Police Division targeted vice activities in Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang, leading to the arrest of four women and the seizure of numerous items related to illegal activities. Similarly, operations in the Tanglin Police Division and Clementi Police Division uncovered violations related to the Women’s Charter and Customs Act, with several individuals facing fines and arrests for possession of duty-unpaid cigarettes and other illegal substances.
The enforcement efforts also extended to anti-drink driving initiatives, with the Traffic Police conducting operations that resulted in multiple arrests for failing breathalyzer tests.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Gregory Tan, Director of the Operations Department, praised the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order during the festive season. He reiterated the commitment of the police to combat crime and ensure public safety, urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
As Singapore approaches the year-end festivities, the police have reiterated their message that safety and celebration can coexist, encouraging the public to utilize alternative transport options to avoid the risks associated with drink driving. The ongoing investigations into the 1,873 individuals are a testament to the authorities’ dedication to upholding the law and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens.
