
The People’s Action Party’s (PAP) Cheng Li Hui from Tampines GRC shared a tear-jerking moment from one of her visits of her residents.
Cheng first met Tan (a resident) during a house visit in 2017.
She said:”There was a sadness I couldn’t quite fathom but he assured me all was fine. I did not take any photo but just held her hand through the closed grille.”
When Cheng visited again last year (November 2019), Tan seemed much happier because she was excited to see her son who would be released from prison soon.
During a Meet-The-People session, he son who was jailed for 20 years didn’t get released she reealed sadly.
Cheng told her that she would fight for her son to serve hoe detention, so she could have her son by her side during her last days.
Cheng added: “I witnessed how much strenght it gave her and i could strongly attest to the need for her son to be with her.”
Cheng revealed that she managed to ful the old lady’s last wish, Tan eventually passed away during the GE2020 with her son by her side.
Cheng concluded: “Some residents want their MP to be estate manager, some to be eloquent advocates for certain causes, come to take care of them. We wear many hats.”
She also added: “I am the quiet type but I’m usually very cheery and i believe in my work, my party and how our leaders have their hearts in the right place.”
