Mr Shamsul Kamar, a member of the People’s Action Party (PAP) that is contesting Aljunied GRC, has refuted suggestions that he is luring people to vote by giving them free food.
In a facebook post posted earlier today, Shamsul said: “It is unfortunate that there were allegations by netizens that I am only helping the Malay community and that I am luring people to vote by providing them with free food.”
Shamsul highlighted the allegations, noting that they were derived from a photo of a planned food distribution drive on Saturday, July 4.
Facebook page “Say NO to PAP” posted the following photo with the caption: ” Aljunied GRC residents! Your vote cost only 2 pieces of Texas Fried Chicken to buy over! Whose money is he spending to bribe you? Otherwise what do they get in return for the political sponsorship?” (See below for full details)

Shamsul added that in this case, the organization that he was working with wanted to focus on lower-income Malay-Muslim families and that the community leaders from the Malay Activity Executive Committee (MAEC) felt that this was a good initiative.
He also added that planning for this event started before the GE2020.
However, the event has since been postponed to after the election, given the election’s recent announcement.
