PARENTS REFUSE TO LET SON GO ON HOLIDAY OVERSEAS, SCARED HE’LL GET KIDNAPPED & NEVER RETURN

Parents that fear everything

Does anyone else feel that your parents tend to always view the world with a kind of pessimistic / fear-based lens — as if there is evil lurking in many corners everywhere and one misstep and people would be out to get you?

I never really thought much about this or noticed it until I wanted to try solo travel for a week after graduation (something I’ve thought about for a long long time since i had to forgo exchange due to COVID).

And also because my parents rejected me multiple times when i broached the idea of overseas family travel months ago

Did my research on the place (Taiwan), and will be paying for 100% of it out of my own pocket.

But when i told them of my plans they just shot me down immediately and started out listing down how taiwan or overseas in general is super dangerous, like they are expecting me to be kidnapped anytime and to never return… what?

Tried to convince them that taiwan is pretty safe but of course will take precautions, dont stay out late etc but they refused to listen and kept repeating how the world is dangerous to me.

Am so befuddled.
