Is it common for boomers to have educational bias, even for their own children?
For context, I have an older sister that went to a local university, got an above-average GPA for a STEM degree and have a banking job.
Meanwhile, I am just a diploma grad with lousy GPA. She has her own room due to her being the only child of her gender.
Meanwhile I have to “share” a room with my older brother. I use apostrophe on the word “share” because that was the original arrangement with my parents before moving in but in the end, my room only contains my clothes.
My stuff is on a computer desk in the living room and I sleep in the living room too.
During the CNY spring cleaning, my mum made a huge fuss about how my area in the living room was messy even though all I have was a computer desk to put my stuff.
My dad saw that I had a bunch of books on my table and he passed a comment saying “Why does he need so many books? Why is he trying to act like an university student?”
I felt that this is really uncalled for as my sis has been a bookworm her whole life and she has been constantly buying books.
She never gets shit for having many books and having a messy room. She has so many books to the point where her shelf is full and her study desk was piled up with books too.
She even had to come out to work on the dining table when she WFH. To be exact, I only had about 12 books on my table. The difference in treatment really made me feel like shit.
So I just want to know, is it common for boomers to treat people differently based on their educational background even on their own children, or is it just my parents?
