PASSENGERS WITH A BUNCH OF BULKY ITEMS, THREATENS PHV DRIVER: “FETCH ME OR I COMPLAIN YOU”

In a recent incident, a private-hire driver (PHV) named Lim Peh took to social media to share his frustrating encounter with a group of self-entitled passengers.

The Unpleasant Experience

On January 19, Lim Peh expressed his frustrations on the Facebook group “PROFESSIONAL PHV DRIVERS SINGAPORE:Grab, Gojek,Tada n Ryde,” regarding a group of three passengers he encountered during a pick-up. The passengers, with multiple items in tow, insisted on being transported in his “normal car.”

Despite the logistical challenge of accommodating three riders along with two big boxes, one luggage, and two bags, the passengers demanded transportation in a standard car. The situation escalated when one passenger allegedly threatened to complain if the driver didn’t comply.

Lim Peh highlighted in his post that a simple act of politeness could have influenced his decision to assist the passengers. Instead, the confrontational approach adopted by one of the riders only fueled frustration.

He said in his post (sic): “Rider booked normal car and insist that l must fetch them. There were 3 riders, 2 big boxes, 1 luggage and 2 bags. “If you don’t fetch me , I will complain you.” If you talked politely to me maybe l will consider helping you.”

1. I have canceled multiple pax due to too many cargo. If items can’t fit into the boot, it’s grounds for cancellation. Pax has NO right to insist that we place their cargo items in the passenger cabin.
2. Beware of cockroaches
   Last time while i was loading an old luggage, a cockroach crawl out from that luggage into my boot.
   From then on, old worn out luggage / baggages all reject, u dun know what is lurking inside !
3. Actually I don’t mind their items (this much). But if they ever threaten me with “if you don’t fetch me, I will complain you”, I’ll straight away cancel. This kind is problematic pax.
4. Sometimes I don’t understand why a car has a boot since driver doesn’t want to use it for its purpose.

   As a PHV driver, it is our responsibility to keep only the minimal items at the boot. The boxes can fit inside the boot, maybe the small luggage too.
   If not, tell them to handcarry the 1 x small luggage and 2 x carrybags.
   But, if you drive cars with small boot space (ie: fit), you reach, then you cancel. Don’t need stress bro!
