Woman in Malaysia Discovers Lizard in Goreng Pisang Tiramisu, Family Allegedly Suffers Food Poisoning

A woman in Penang, Malaysia, was horrified to find a whole lizard in the goreng pisang (banana fritters) tiramisu she purchased from a local stall. The shocking discovery, which she shared in a TikTok video, has since led to claims that her family suffered from food poisoning.

The incident occurred on June 17, and the woman posted a video that has garnered over 850,000 views. In the clip, she uses a fork to sift through her dessert, eventually revealing a suspicious item covered in mascarpone and shredded cheese. After rinsing it under water, she confirmed her worst fears: it was indeed a lizard.

Claims of Food Poisoning

In her comments, the woman stated that she, her husband, and their children experienced food poisoning for more than two weeks after consuming the tiramisu. She reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea starting on May 29 and mentioned visiting two clinics for treatment.

She cautioned others about food establishments with poor hygiene, expressing her frustration in the caption: “If you get food poisoning or even die from being poisoned, you’ll have to bear it yourself because the owner doesn’t care as long as there’s profit.”

Stall Owner’s Response

When the woman reached out to the stallholder for a refund and compensation for her family’s medical expenses, she claimed he viewed her message but did not respond. After intervention from Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, the stallholder allegedly offered compensation only if the family was treated at a government hospital, where the bill would be just RM1 (approximately S$0.30).

Public Reaction

Netizens reacted with shock and disgust at the woman’s discovery, with many expressing relief that she found the lizard before consuming the entire dessert. Some local residents commented on the stall’s poor hygiene, with one user mentioning that they had encountered mouldy sambal at the same establishment.

A clever commenter suggested a tip for assessing the cleanliness of food establishments: checking the condition of the restroom, which can indicate the overall hygiene of the premises.

While some accused the woman of seeking compensation through her video, she clarified that her primary concern was the lack of accountability from the stall owner.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety and hygiene standards in the food industry.
