Honestly, I cannot brain some of our colleagues. Currently on my block leave, trying to enjoy my physical and mental peace, but my Outlook notifications keep popping up. Why? Because of this one absolute clown in my team who is also supposedly on leave in Japan, but still replying to emails within five minutes.
Bro, who are you trying to impress? 🦁
You think the CEO will see your “Sent from my iPhone” at 11 PM Tokyo time and suddenly promote you to Managing Director? Dream on lah. These people are either deeply insecure that they will be replaced the moment they step away, or they have been completely brainwashed by corporate “responsibility.”
It is never that urgent. If the company is going to collapse just because you didn’t look at a spreadsheet for five days, then your management has a bigger problem. But no, these bootlickers—especially the overachieving, toxic-productivity types from certain backgrounds—just love to show face. They want everyone to see, “Look at me, I’m so dedicated, I’m sacrificing my holiday for the company!”
You are not being responsible; you are just setting a horrible precedent for the rest of us. When you reply on leave, you make the toxic bosses think everyone should be on standby 24/7. You are raising the KPI for free. Are you getting paid extra OT? No. Is the company going to give you a medal? No, they will just reward you with more work.
Please lah, wake up. HR already forces us to clear leave because it’s a liability. Go eat your sushi, disconnect your Wi-Fi, and stop spoiling the market for the rest of Singapore. If you love work so much, don’t take leave. Otherwise, shut your laptop and let us normal humans enjoy our peace.
End of rant. Going to mute my teams now.
