On May 24, 2024, the Land and Transport Authority (LTA) conducted an operation in Ang Mo Kio, using plainclothes officers to crack down on illegal use of personal mobility devices (PMDs). Shin Min Daily News reported that at least three individuals were fined, and their PMDs were confiscated during the operation, which took place at 51@AMK and Ang Mo Kio Point around 7 pm.
A tip-off from a reader led to the discovery of the operation, with photos showing officers in civilian clothes seizing PMDs and ushering several individuals to the void deck of Block 700c Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6. An eyewitness reported seeing eight officers at the scene, who stopped three food delivery personnel, some of whom were still carrying food when caught. A van carrying LTA personnel and a lorry were also present at the scene.
Further reports revealed that LTA officers asked the delivery riders to remove the food from their PMDs and weighed the vehicles individually before confiscating three PMDs. This incident serves as a reminder to all PMD users to adhere to the rules and regulations set by the LTA, which aim to ensure the safety of both riders and pedestrians.
