An assassination plot against the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, by an elite group of Chechen special forces, the Kadyrovites, was foiled by members of Russia’s security services who are secretly working against Vladimir Putin, according to The Insider.
A Ukrainian defence official said that double agents in Russia’s security agency provided valuable intel on the assassination plot to the Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine president Zelensky is widely believed to be a key target of Russia.
The assassins that were sent by Russia to kill Zelensky was “destroyed directly”, with a Telegram post being shared by Ukraine’s Center for Strategic Communications, quoting the head of Ukraine National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov, according to Axios.
Ukraine had received information about the assassination plot from insiders of Russia’s Federal Security Service, who apparently “do not want to take part in this bloody war”.
Danilov said that the elite group of assassins were “destroyed directly”, having been split into two groups; of which one group was destroyed in Hostomel and the other group being “under fire”.
Reports also emerged about multiple assassination attempts on president Zelensky since the Russian invasion on 24 February, although Zelensky has insisted on remaining in the capital with his people.
