Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a Facebook post that the 4G team that is led by Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong, will have their work cut out for them in taking Singapore forward.
He said that they will have to steer Singapore through many challenges, including rebuilding the economy and society in the wake of the pandemic.
He revealed that the plan is “for Lawrence to succeed me as PM, either before or after the next general election in 2025”, provided the PAP wins.

The 4G team, led by Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, have their work cut out for them in taking Singapore forward. They will have to steer the country through many challenges, including rebuilding the economy and our society in the wake of the pandemic, while navigating choppy geopolitical waters.
The plan is for Lawrence to succeed me as PM, either before or after (if the PAP wins) the next General Election. It is due in 2025 and will surely be a tough fight.
Lawrence was selected as 4G leader in a process slightly different from the last two handovers. It was a thorough and carefully deliberated process, with the strengths and weaknesses of the potential candidates actively sought. My thanks to former Cabinet Minister and PAP Chairman Khaw Boon Wan for facilitating this process.
The senior Cabinet members and myself will guide and advise the younger team as we transition towards the new leadership. I wish Lawrence and his team the very best in carrying Singapore forward.
