Four men have been arrested in a case of armed robbery at a unit along Jurong Gateway Road, said the police on Friday (Nov 20). Three men were arrested for the robbery and another was arrested for disposing of the knife that was used in the robbery.
Three men robbed a money lending company with knives and robbed more than $48,000 in cash within 3 minutes. One man grabbed the female manager’s ponytail with his left hand, threatened her not to shout with a knife in his right hand, and then proceeded to lock her in a separate room. The female manager called for help, alarming the clerk next door, and she was able to escape, and then immediately called the police.
The case occurred at about 4:10 pm yesterday (November 19) at a money lending company under the HDB Block 135 on Jurong Gateway.
The female manager of the loan company, Ms. Yang (35 years old), revealed that she was the only one in the shop at the time. Three Indian men were involved in the case. One was a fat man with a hat, the other was a thin man, and one was wearing glasses.
The skinny man and the man wearing spectacles stepped into the shop earlier. The man with glasses appeared first wearing a motorcycle helmet, and he walked into the store and asked if he could use his birth certificate to obtain a loan.
Soon after, the three came to the store together again, and the fat man claimed that he wanted a loan.
Ms. Yang described that she was about to respond to Fat man but the skinny man suddenly grabbed her ponytail with her left hand and took out a knife with his right hand, threatening her not to shout, and then said, “We are just asking for money.”
The trio found several thousand dollars in the drawer. Ms. Yang originally lied that there was no safe in the store, but the other party did not believe it. They found the safe and forced her to open the safe, swept all $48,000 in cash into a backpack, and locked her inside. Leaving her in a small room.
Miss Yang couldn’t open the door, so she knocked on the partition and asked the employee of the money transfer company next door for help. A 50-year-old female clerk of the remittance company heard the call for help and ran to the next door to help her open the door. She then proceeded called the police.
