At approximately 11:25 am on May 15, a traffic police officer was patrolling along Aljunied Road towards Upper Aljunied Road when he signaled for a car to stop for a routine check. The driver initially indicated that he would comply and pull over at a nearby bus stop. However, he suddenly sped off, abandoning his vehicle at a junction along Aljunied Road and attempting to flee on foot.
The Chase
A video posted online captured the dramatic scene, with the police officer hot on the suspect’s heels. The suspect was seen running back to the road, attempting to return to his car, but the officer quickly pulled over, got off his motorcycle, and began chasing him on foot. The suspect then bolted over a road divider railing and ran towards a car, where two other passengers alighted and were seen holding on to each other. The officer swiftly reached the car before the suspect could close the door, and the suspect subsequently surrendered.
Arrest and Charges
The Singapore Police Force confirmed to Mothership that the male suspect was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, cheating by personation, various traffic-related offenses, and suspected drug-related offenses. Police investigations are ongoing.
