A video previously emerged online showing an event taking place at a coffeeshop along Hougang where a man was seen drinking two bottles of beer at one go, as the crowd erupted into cheers.
The Singapore Police Force is reportedly investigating the event for violating certain regulations, according to Shin Min Daily News.
M’sian Getai singer
The Hougang coffee shop event took place on June 12 and quickly gained attention as the video of the performance went viral online.
Among the crowd of onlookers, a Malaysian getai singer, known by his stage name Weizong (黑人伟宗), stood out by chugging two bottles of beer simultaneously while delivering a live vocal performance.
He later received two $50 notes that were “pasted” onto his beer-soaked cheeks as he continued with his vocal performance, and at the end was given tissues to wipe himself off and received a red packet for his perfromance.
Weizong, a popular getai singer, was invited along with other performers to entertain the crowd during the coffee shop’s anniversary celebration.
Despite the entertainment value of the event, it came under scrutiny as it seemingly violated certain regulations and the police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
The person in charge of organizing the event, Mr. Lim, disclosed that the organizers had obtained a license to host the getai performance before the event took place.
Mr. Lim theorized that the high number of spectators present on that day might have prompted the authorities to intervene.
In an interview with Shin Min, Mr. Lim expressed his perspective, stating that they were probably reported to the authorities because there were too many people at the kopitiam that day, which affected other patrons who were dining at the time. However, it wasn’t possible for them to chase away the guests who came over to cheer for the performers.
