A shocking case unfolded in Ipoh when a 26-year-old police constable was seriously injured after being stabbed and shot while pursuing a suspect in the early hours of 7 September. The violent incident, which took place near Simpang Pulai, has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to police reports, the officer, Constable Azzuqufli (26), from the Simpang Pulai police station, was part of a patrol team conducting routine checks at about 1.05am. Officers noticed a suspicious green Toyota Avanza parked by the Sungai Pinji riverside at Desa Bagatan Garden and decided to intervene.
As they approached, the driver suddenly sped off at high speed towards Simpang Pulai, sparking a dramatic 2.6km chase. The pursuit ended when the suspect abandoned the car in an oil palm plantation after driving into a dead end, fleeing into nearby forested areas.
Fierce Struggle Ends in Gun Grab
Constable Azzuqufli bravely gave chase on foot and engaged in a violent struggle with the suspect. During the fight, the man slashed the officer in the abdomen with a knife before managing to snatch his service weapon — a Walther P99 semi-automatic pistol.
The situation turned more horrific when the suspect fired two close-range shots into the officer’s abdomen after stabbing him three times. Despite his severe injuries, Azzuqufli fought valiantly until backup officers arrived. He was rushed to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
In a grim twist, police found a woman’s body inside the abandoned Toyota Avanza. The victim, believed to be a 62-year-old Chinese woman, has yet to be formally identified.
Murder and Attempted Murder Investigation
Police have classified the case as murder, attempted murder, and firearms offences under Malaysia’s Penal Code and Arms Act. Authorities are now mounting a large-scale manhunt for the suspect and the missing police firearm.
District police chief ASP Fadli Ahmad has urged members of the public with any information to step forward immediately. He emphasised that the suspect is dangerous and should not be approached.
“This is a very serious case involving the death of a woman and the brutal attack on one of our officers. We are appealing to the public to cooperate and help us bring the suspect to justice,” he said.
The officer’s courage in confronting the suspect despite the life-threatening assault has been hailed as heroic, while Malaysians are expressing outrage and concern over the violent escalation. Police have pledged to track down the attacker swiftly to prevent further harm.
