A local woman shared a photo on Facebook, taken on a public bus in Yishun, which appeared to show a ghostly apparition of a woman with long hair, standing or sitting on top of a parked van in an open-air car park. The photo, taken on February 13, sparked a lively discussion on the social media platform.
Upon closer inspection, the faint image of a figure with long hair and wearing a white dress can be discerned on the left side of the photo. The woman who posted the photo asked her Facebook followers, “What on earth is that on top of that van????!!”
Initial responses expressed shock or sought clarification on which part of the photo to focus on to see the ghostly image. Later responses inquired about the location of the photo and the bus service number. The mother later revealed that the bus was service 811 and it was passing by Block 269A Yishun Street 22.
A resident of the estate recognized the van in the photo as the one driven by her husband, who inspected the vehicle and recorded a video to prove there was no apparition on top of it. The mother responded with humor, “Maybe she has moved to another place. Didn’t have time to meet.”
Some commenters attempted to explain the image as an optical illusion. The most convincing explanation suggested that the ghostly apparition was caused by the reflection of a bus handle. The position of the apparition overlaps with the location of the leftmost bus handle in the background. However, some remained unconvinced, questioning how a reflection could create the image of a person with long hair and wearing white clothes.
