Oxford University’s lead developer of the Covid-19 vaccine said on Tuesday (july 21) that a vaccine could be rolled out by the end of the year but laments that there is no certainty however that it will happen.
The AstraZeneca licensed vaccine, produced an immune response during early-stage trials.
Professor Sarah Silbert said: “The end of the year target for getting vaccine rollout, it’s a possibility.”
She also added that for that to happen, three things need to happen:
- It needs to work in late-stage trials.
- There needs to be large quantities manufactured.
- Regulators have to agfree quickly to license it for emergency use.
The scientists from Oxford had targeted a million doses of the potential vaccine to be produced by September.
The World Health Organization remarked that AstraZeneca is one of the leading candidates in the search for a vaccine.
