Married Doctor in China Dismissed After Multiple Affairs and Patient Neglect Incident

A married doctor in Beijing, identified as Xiao Fei, has been dismissed from his position at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital following a scandal involving multiple extramarital affairs and a serious incident of patient neglect during surgery. The case has garnered significant attention on Chinese social media after a detailed complaint letter from his wife, surnamed Gu, circulated widely.

In her nine-page letter, Gu accused Xiao of having affairs with four women, including a head nurse and a resident doctor at the hospital. The affairs reportedly resulted in two pregnancies, both of which ended in abortion. Gu first discovered her husband’s infidelity in October 2019 when she found explicit messages exchanged between Xiao and nurse Shi Yuhui, with their affair dating back to February 2019.

The situation escalated when Xiao began a relationship with another colleague, resident physician Dong Yaojing, in June 2024. Despite hospital policies that would typically require Dong to rotate out of the thoracic surgery department, the two allegedly manipulated the system to extend their affair. By September 2024, Dong was pregnant, and Xiao openly cohabited with her, neglecting his responsibilities to his wife and child.

The most alarming incident occurred on July 5, 2024, when Xiao and Dong were performing surgery on a patient. After a heated argument with a nurse who reprimanded Dong, Xiao lost his composure and left the anesthetized patient unattended for 40 minutes. This lapse in judgment nearly resulted in serious complications for the patient, raising significant ethical concerns about his professional conduct.

Following the circulation of Gu’s complaint, the hospital conducted an investigation that confirmed the allegations against Xiao. On April 27, 2025, the hospital announced his dismissal via WeChat, stating that his actions violated both personal conduct and professional ethics. Xiao was expelled from the Communist Party of China and terminated from his employment.

In response to the allegations, Xiao admitted to having relationships with a nurse and a resident doctor but denied any further accusations, claiming a lack of evidence. He defended his actions during the surgery, stating that he left the patient to “regulate his emotions” after feeling dizzy and shaky from the argument.

This incident has sparked discussions about the ethical responsibilities of medical professionals and the importance of maintaining patient safety, particularly in high-stakes environments like surgery. The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of personal misconduct in the medical field.
