The influencer, known online as “Umi”, gained attention after distressing images of her surfaced on Chinese social media platforms. In the photos, she appeared visibly frail, clutching what seemed to be an X-ray film, with reports indicating she had sustained injuries to her leg.
Investigations into her online presence showed that her short-video account had been registered in Cambodia, where she had uploaded the majority of her recent content. Despite having a modest following, her case quickly went viral due to the shocking nature of her situation and the growing awareness of scam syndicates targeting job seekers.
Rescued and Returned After Embassy Intervention
Authorities later confirmed that Umi was located in a Cambodian hospital before being assisted back to China. Medical examinations conducted after her return revealed that she had tested positive for drugs and was suffering from nerve-related leg complications, possibly due to prolonged immobility.
