PRC JAILED FOR 6 WEEKS AFTER CAUSING SKULL INJURY TO A WOMAN WHILE RIDING UNREGISTERED E-SCOOTER

A male Chinese national was sentenced to 6 weeks of jail after he pleaded guilty to 1 count each of riding an unregistered e-scooter and causing grievous hurt to a woman.

The incident happened on the 23 Oct 2019 while he was riding along on a footpath of Selegie Road. The man was on his way to meet a potential buyer for his unregistered e-scooter.

The man was riding against the traffic on a speed of 15km/hr before he collided with the victim. The accident has caused the victim to bleed from her mouth and face. After the accident, he carried the victim to the side of the road while passerby called the ambulance .

The victim was later diagnosed to have suffered from a subdural haematoma and a fractured skull. After the victim was discharged, she was given 31 days of hospitalisation leave. The man has made a compensation of $8,000 to the victim out of his own will.

According to the law for his offences, the man could be jailed up to 4 years and fined up to $8,000.
