Zhu Honglu, a 32-year-old Chinese national, was convicted in court on 15 November for causing mischief.
He had drunk 7 cans of beer before heading to a bus depot at Woodlands to damage a couple of buses.
Another charge of public annoyance while drunk will be considered during his sentencing.
What happened?
The construction worker had drunk 7 cans of beer at home on 22 November last year before heading out, at around 1.30am, he was standing in the middle of the road outside the bus depot at Woodlands Industrial Park.
He was shouting at the buses as he ran towards an SMRT bus turning into the depot, targeting the windscreen wiper and knocked on the windscreen after the bus stopped.
He then left after a while.
Targeted another bus
About 20 minutes later, he then walked in front of another bus that was returning to the depot, resulting in the driver stopping the bus.
Zhu then shouted at the driver, and he then removed the side mirror and hit the windscreen with it, scratching the vehicle.
he then tried to kick the door open but failed, so he pulled apart the rubber seal that was attached to the door.
A staff member then called the police.
$6,200 in damages
The first bus sustained no damages, but the 2nd bus sustained damages to his windscreen and mirror and needed repairs that amounted to $6,200.
Zhu made the full restitution of the amount to SMRT on 6 September 2021.
The case has been adjourned to 22 November, pending further submissions from the prosecution.
