A woman was held hostage by a 25-year-old man Huang Yang from China for 12 hours, and robbed of $70,000, according to Zaobao.
Huang Yang was sentenced to 3 years and 2 months imprisonment on 28 March 2022 as well as 12 strokes of the cane.
What happened?
The two had met up at the MBS hotel on 20 March 2021 and had intercourse, and when the woman walked out of the shower without any clothes on, Huang tied up her hands and legs with tape.
He had planned to rob the woman before their meeting so that he could pay off his debts from his failed business and gambling in China.
He managed to get the woman to reveal her phone’s password and pin and he then accessed her bank account after forcefully pushing her.
He then transferred money from her account to a few other third-party bank accounts throughout the night and the next morning when she woke up, he told her to make some transactions using her credit card.
She reportedly lost a total of SGD $72,800.
Huang then kept the victim tied up throughout the night and watched her when she used the toilet, and when he was releasing her, he threatened to leak her explicit photos and information to her family.
The woman tried to cancel the recent transactions with her bank after she was released but failed, and she then filed a police report.
Huang was then arrested on the same day.
