A confrontation at Forest City in Johor Bahru has gone viral after a man allegedly smoking in a non-smoking area was confronted by members of the public.

The incident reportedly took place at Forest City Commercial Street, where a woman approached the man and reminded him that smoking was not allowed in the area.

Videos of the confrontation quickly spread online, sparking heated discussions about public etiquette, smoking regulations, and respecting local rules while visiting another country.

Woman Calmly Tells Man Not To Smoke

In the viral clip, the woman could first be heard speaking to the man in English before switching to Mandarin after realising he understood the language.

She reportedly told him politely that the area was a designated non-smoking zone.

The woman was later heard questioning why the man became upset after she had only advised him not to smoke.

At one point during the exchange, the man appeared to be holding what looked like a cigarette in his hand.

The situation soon attracted attention from nearby members of the public as tensions began rising between the parties involved.

Malaysian Man Steps In During Heated Argument

A Malaysian Chinese man later stepped in and confronted the smoker over the issue.

The two men were seen standing close to each other while arguing, as another person nearby appeared to intervene in an attempt to calm the situation down.

According to reports circulating online, the man allegedly shoved a bystander during the confrontation after being repeatedly told not to smoke in the restricted area.

It remains unclear whether police reports were lodged or if any enforcement action was eventually taken following the incident.

Forest City Reminds Visitors About Smoking Rules

Following the viral incident, Forest City Commercial Street appeared to respond through a Facebook post reminding visitors not to smoke in prohibited areas.

The post warned that smoking in the wrong location could result in a RM5,000 fine, which is approximately S$1,430.

In a humorous tone, the post encouraged visitors to enjoy the sea breeze, food, sunset views, and water activities instead of smoking in public areas.

Visitors who wished to smoke were reportedly advised to head to designated smoking areas instead.

Photos attached to the social media post showed staff members pointing towards “No Smoking And Drinking Area” signs around the Fisherman Wharf area.

Netizens Debate Public Behaviour And Respect

The incident quickly triggered debate online, with many netizens praising the woman for remaining calm while speaking up about the smoking issue.

Others commented that visitors should respect the laws and regulations of whichever country or place they are visiting.

Some users, however, urged the public not to turn the incident into a nationality debate, saying that the focus should remain on public behaviour and respecting shared spaces rather than where someone comes from.

Public smoking continues to remain a sensitive issue across many parts of Asia, especially in crowded tourist areas where smoking restrictions are strictly enforced.

For many online users, the viral confrontation served as another reminder that simple public courtesy and following local rules can help avoid unnecessary conflict in shared spaces.
