PRC WOMAN BROKE COVID RULES, ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO BRIBE POLICE WITH $100

Chen Yuanyuan, a 28-year-old Chinese national, was given 7 charges earlier today.

Among the charges she faced includes two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant, two counts under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act, and one count under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

What happened?

Earlier this year on 24 Fenruary, Chen allegedly breached Covid-19 rules by leaving her home to go to a gathering of more than 8 people at a home in Pemimpin Drive.

The police caught her celebrating Chinese New Year at the unit with 14 other people after midnight.

She then allegedly tried to bribe one of the police officers with $100, hoping the officer wouldn’t take enforcement action against her.

The police officer rejected the bribe the the case was then referred to the CPIB.

Separately, in another incident that happened on 21 June, Chen had allegedly threatened a man with a knife.

She is currently out on a bail of $15,000 and is due to return to court on 5 November.

The CPIB said in a statement released yesterday that Singapore takes a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.
