She expressed that she has been staying in Singapore for about 8 years and feels at home here, with many Chinese brands and shops around.
She shared some of the Chinese businesses around Singapore that she felt were familiar and interesting in her video.
The Impact of Capitalism
In recent years, Singapore has become a prime example of how capitalism can bridge geographical and cultural gaps, with the influx of Chinese retail brands onto Singapore’s shores.
Brands That Resonate
The woman’s video highlighted several prominent Chinese retail brands she has encountered during her stay here, primarily in the F&B areas such as Haidilao, Mixue and lifestyle brands like Yishion and Miniso, to name a few, according to Mothership.
These businesses, originally hailing from China, have expanded their reach globally, and Singapore is no exception.
A Familiar Touch
Moreover, she noted that the Mixue mascot regularly “goes crazy daily” in Paya Lebar, indicating her familiarity with the area and hinting at the mascot’s antics being akin to those in China.
The video commenced with the woman’s journey along the bustling streets of Geylang, an area teeming with Chinese-run F&B eateries and restaurants.
Several familiar Chinese brands and businesses could also be seen in the video which she painstakingly collated over several months, to share the visit-worthy places to others.
Response to media coverage
Taking to her XianHongShu platform, the woman said that she is not a tourist in Singapore as insinuated in an article by Mothership, and has in fact been staying in Singapore for many years.
She was sharing some of the brands from China that came to Singapore, promoting the businesses. And that Singapore is one of the most interesting places, with over 600 videos being posted on her profile about interesting places.
