This comes in the wake of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan on 2 August, drawing the ire of the Chinese government.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV posted on their Weibo account, stating that there is only “One China”, and was shared on the social media accounts of many pro-state Chinese and in favour of the government’s stance.

Celebrities from Singapore and China were called out by Chinese netizens for not showing their support, including Singaporeans JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun, Jet Li; and Malaysians Fish Leong and Michelle Yeoh.

The netizen who posted the list of celebrity names said that these celebrities “have something to hide” because they didn’t share CCTV’s post.

Another netizen tried to talk reason with him, saying that JJ Lin and Stefanie Sun are not from China and didnn’t need to share their views, but the netizen then asked:

“Did they not earn money from the mainland? Are they not a part of the local showbiz?”
