A resident living along Choa Chu Kang Crescent has voiced concerns over overnight MRT maintenance works, claiming the noise has severely disrupted his pregnant wife’s sleep and worsened her health condition.
According to the resident, the maintenance activities have been taking place at around 2am over several nights this week.
He said his wife, who is currently pregnant, has been suffering from severe vertigo and had already been struggling with frequent nausea during her pregnancy.
The resident shared that the lack of proper rest has aggravated her condition, resulting in multiple hospital visits.
He said his wife had initially seen some improvement in her pregnancy symptoms, with nausea episodes reducing from five to six times a day to around two to three times daily. However, her condition reportedly deteriorated after the onset of vertigo.
“She had a breakdown yesterday. She thought she was finally getting over the nausea, but then the vertigo came, which is even worse and more dangerous. She could collapse or fall anytime when it happens,” he said.
Resident Says Noise Levels Are Excessive
The resident, who lives on the 13th floor, said the noise was significant enough for him to hear workers talking loudly in the middle of the night.
Frustrated by the disruption, he said he contacted the police to seek assistance.
However, he was allegedly informed that the works had been approved by the relevant authorities and no enforcement action could be taken.
According to the resident, he was instead advised to submit feedback through the OneService app.
He expressed doubts that lodging a report would lead to any meaningful action being taken.
Concerns Over Overnight Maintenance Near Residential Areas
Overnight rail maintenance works are commonly carried out when train services are not operating to minimise disruptions to commuters.
However, residents living close to MRT tracks have occasionally raised concerns over noise levels, particularly when works continue into the early hours of the morning.
It is unclear how long the current maintenance works along Choa Chu Kang Crescent will continue.
Authorities have not publicly commented on the specific feedback raised by the resident at the time of writing.
