PRICES OF EGGS LIKELY TO RISE, BUT NO SHORTAGE IN S’PORE

The prices of eggs have been increasing over the last few months, but it isn’t because of any shortages but rather, the increasing costs of chicken feed and logistics, as well as global inflation.

Reports have been coming out about fewer eggs being seen in some stores, and supermarket chains are explaining that it was due to the shelves not being restocked yet.

Also, local egg farm Seng Choon Farm reportedly had an outbreak of Newcastle disease, resulting in production to fall by 40 to 50%.

A spokesperson for FairPrice said that they have ramped up supplies from other sources due to the temporary disruption from Seng Choon.

It is also worth noting that supplies in Singapore may fluctuate every now and then, but the overall egg supply is still stable.

FairPrice also said that the increase in prices of eggs over the last 2 months was due to several market factors, including cost of feed, logistics, manpower shortages and demand & supply.
