PRITAM SINGH: RAEESAH KHAN ADMITTED TO PARTY LEADERS ABOUT LYING IN PARLIAMENT

During the press conference held by the Workers’ Party (WP), the party’s secretary-general Pritam Singh shared that MP Raeesah Khan had admitted to the party leadership that she lied in parliament a week after her speech.

He said that his immediate concern was Raeesah not informing her family about her assault, which was paramount for her to do so so that she could address the reasons for her dishonesty in Parliament and to correct the record.

Singh said that he was prepared to give her the space she needed to address the matter with her family.

Raeesah had taken ill in September and didn’t attend Parliament sittings that month, and she was told that any clarification on the matter was hers to make before the October sitting.

However, Raeesah repeated the untruths after Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam asked her to reveal more information about the allegations.

Singh said that it was inconsistent with what she told the party leadership, and she later agreed with the WP leaders that she needed to set the record right at the next earliest Parliament sitting on 1 November.

They later announced on 30 November that she had resigned from her position.

Singh also stated that the public trust in WP’s MPs are fundamental and that they should never take their faith, trust, and confidence for granted.
