SINGAPORE – After more than a decade, Malaysian car manufacturer Proton is making a comeback in Singapore with the introduction of its first electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7. This new model was showcased during a “special public preview” at The Car Expo 2025 and is expected to be available for sale in Singapore as early as August 2025.
The e.MAS 7 has already made waves in Malaysia, becoming the best-selling EV in the country for the first four months of 2025. According to reports, the appointed dealer, Vincar, will establish a flagship showroom in the Leng Kee automotive belt to facilitate sales.
Pricing and Specifications
The e.MAS 7 is anticipated to fall under the pricier Category B COE bracket in Singapore, with an estimated selling price of S$174,000. This price point is significantly higher than its starting price in Malaysia, which is approximately five times lower.
In terms of performance, the electric vehicle can be charged from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes using DC fast charging. It boasts a driving range of approximately 345 kilometers on a full charge, making it a competitive option for environmentally conscious consumers.
However, the high price tag has raised eyebrows among potential buyers. One user remarked, “$half the price I also won’t buy,” indicating skepticism about the value proposition of the vehicle at its current price.
As Proton re-establishes its presence in the Singapore market, the launch of the e.MAS 7 marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings and cater to the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
