In a couple of video shared on TikTok, a huge reticulated python was discovered coiled under the bonnet of a black car parked at 57 Marine Terrace.
A Python’s Reaction
When the python was initially discovered, it reacted with a mix of fear and confusion. It quickly coiled into itself and attempted to slide deeper into the car to hide from the human, perceiving the ensuing commotion as a threat to itself.
Onlookers had varying responses to the situation. One man, seemingly unfazed by the large reptile, held a long wooden pole as he watched the reptile.
In contrast, a concerned female voice behind the camera could be heard telling the others to leave the snake alone and not touch it, wait for the authorities (NEA) to come instead.
The Rescue Operation
Despite the risks, a group of individuals decided to take matters into their own hands. A woman in a brown shirt bravely grabbed onto the snake’s body, while two men armed with wooden batons attempted to control the snake’s head.
Their goal was to guide the python into a brown paper bag. After a tense struggle, they managed to secure the snake, ultimately lifting it off the ground and safely containing it in the bag.
Conclusion
According to NParks, pythons in Singapore have adapted to our urban landscape and the snake in this situation could have liked the warmth inside the vehicle, which explains why it chose to seek shelter inside one of it.
They said that pythons will not attack unless they are attacked or provoked and urged members of the public to stay away from them if spotted, and call their helpline at 1800 476 1600 instead.
