A man was seen in a video performing a prayer routine outside his flat, when his neighbour attempted to interrupt him by clanging a gong behind him.

The man, Livanesh Ramu, shared a video of the incident on his Facebook page.

Ramu was ringing a small bell and performing some prayer rites outside his own doorway, while a woman holding a gong, picked up a stick and used it to strike her gong repeatedly and animatedly, seemingly in mockery of his prayers.

He said that like many Hindus, the prayer that he was performing has been a part of his family’s 5-minute, twice a week prayer routine.

He added that his family has lived in their home for more than 20 years and never had any issues.

He then lamented that with the Covid-19 pandemic, shenanigans like his neighbour’s antics have become a new norm.

The ringing of bells is quite common in Hindu prayers and it is believed to drive away evil forces and allow divinity to enter the worshipper.

They are also meant to create calmness to help the worshipper’s concentration.
