RAGING FIRE @ TOA PAYOH HDB, 1 PERSON SENT TO HOSPITAL & 50 PEOPLE EVACUATED

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a series of statements on Facebook that a fire had broken out at a HDB building at Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.

SCDF’s first statement

SCDF had been alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location. Firefighters are currently on scene conducting firefighting operations.

SCDF’s second statement

At about 8.20pm today (12 Aug), SCDF was alerted to a fire at the above-mentioned location.

Upon SCDF’s arrival, the fire was raging and thick black smoke was emitting from a unit on the 3rd floor. The fire was extinguished by SCDF using one water jet. Damping down operations are ongoing.

2 casualties are currently being assessed by SCDF Emergency Medical Services.

About 50 occupants from the affected block were evacuated by the Police and SCDF as a precautionary measure.

At about 8.20pm today (12 Aug), SCDF was alerted to a fire at the above-mentioned location.

Upon SCDF’s arrival, the fire was raging and thick black smoke was emitting from a unit on the 3rd floor. At the height of the firefighting operation, two water jets were deployed to fight the fire. As a result of the fire, the entire unit was affected by heat and smoke damage.

One person was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation. Another person was assessed by an SCDF paramedic for smoke inhalation and subsequently refused conveyance to the hospital.

About 50 occupants from the affected block were evacuated by the Police and SCDF as a precautionary measure. We understand some occupants of the affected block had self-evacuated proactively.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
