In a recent development, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has discovered that Samy Instant Cooking Bak Kut Teh with Rice (Dry and Soup) has been imported from an unauthorized source in Malaysia. This product contains over 5% pork, which is a concern as meat and meat products with more than 5% meat can only be brought in from accredited sources.
As a preventive measure, SFA has instructed the involved importers, Biscotti Trading Pte Ltd and Boughtnex Pte Ltd, to initiate a recall of the affected products. This recall is currently in progress.
In Singapore, all food imports must adhere to SFA’s regulations. Only licensed importers are permitted to bring in food, and each consignment must be declared and accompanied by a valid import permit. Specifically, meat and meat products can only be imported from accredited sources in approved countries that meet Singapore’s food safety standards and requirements.
Food products that are illegally imported from unknown and unapproved sources can pose a risk to consumer safety. Therefore, consumers who have purchased the implicated products are advised not to consume them. Those who have consumed the products and feel unwell should seek medical attention. For any inquiries, consumers can contact their point of purchase.
This situation underscores the importance of adhering to strict food import regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers. By maintaining high standards and enforcing rigorous checks, SFA continues to protect public health and uphold the reputation of Singapore’s food industry.
