A netizen shared how he sent his laptop for repairs at a shop in Sim Lim Square and the man damaged his laptop and refused to fix it.
Here is the story:
“Few takeaways:
1. 10 years old MacBook pro
2. Everything (sound, fan) works fine on Thursday night with power cable, except battery is dead, cannot recharge
3. I just need to replace the battery
Early morning 10am, I went to Sim Lim Square, this is the only shop opened during that time and the uncle seems friendly. He quoted $80 which I’m ok with it. Then he pointed to me the speaker spoilt, he can repair it for $20, I also fine with it. He said he will clean the inside for me, I saw him using a big paintbrush to clean the speaker and fan area.
Upon collecting, the MBP is on and everything seems fine. I off the laptop and went back. But when I on the laptop again at my home, the fan gave a loud rattling sound.
I went back the next morning, expecting him to voluntarily fix the problem and I wanted to replace an internal hard disk inside also. Another business for him. But when he saw me, he pretended not to know me and asked me for the receipt, which I gave to him. Then he miraculously remembers me.
When he opened the back of the laptop, he pointed the fan and said it’s spoilt, need to replace. Then I said: “But uncle, my laptop was ok when I handed it to you, the battery you replaced is ok, but the fan problem started after you fixed the battery, I also wanted to replace an internal hard disk and get it from you.
He answered me: ”Your MBP is so old, parts will get spoilt, you cannot say I spoilt the fan” Of which I replied I saw how he brushed the speaker and the fan part so harshly, that might be the cause. I told him my comp no problem when I handed to him and the fan problem existed after I left the shop with the laptop. (The fan rattling sounds will disappear after 5-6 minutes). He said:” this actually quite simple to repair, but I dun want to, leave”
I’m unlucky to randomly pick such a store and while I got empathy towards this uncle in this current times, I feel he needs to be called out to prevent honest customers from patronizing this black shop”
