The Fateful Incident

On 1 September at around 1 pm, tragedy struck at the picturesque Ayuterra Resort. The victims, all employees of the resort’s housekeeping department, were ascending to a higher level using the resort’s lift when the steel cable supporting the lift suddenly gave way and snapped. This catastrophic failure led to the horrifying plunge into the ravine below.

Two of the employees were killed instantly upon landing, while three others initially survived the fall before eventually succumbing to their injuries and dying.

Eyewitnesses recount the terrifying moment when the cable snapped, accompanied by screams and a deafening crash that resonated throughout the vicinity.

One worker at the hotel, upon hearing the commotion, rushed to the scene and discovered the five employees at the foot of the ravine.

Heartbreaking footage has also surfaced, showing authorities meticulously transporting two lifeless bodies up the resort’s stairs.

Ongoing Investigations

In the wake of this dreadful incident, the Ubud police have launched a comprehensive investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the failure of the cable caused the lift to slide downward before plunging into the ravine, according to Tribune News.

Furthermore, it is highly likely that the steel cable was not sufficiently strong to bear the load, and the safety brake may have malfunctioned at the time of the incident.

Authorities are also exploring the possibility of negligence at the resort, such as irregular maintenance of the elevator.

Resort Owner’s Commitment

Linggawati Utomo, the owner of Ayuterra Resort, has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and extended her sincere apologies.

She has taken full responsibility for the tragedy and pledged to cover all the costs associated with the funeral ceremonies.
