A video emerged online showing a woman in China being dropped off at a restaurant in Sichuan province where she works as a cleaner.
She was seen being dropped off at the restaurant in a Bentley.
The woman, dressed in a striped, pink polo t-shirt, rubber boots and donning an apron, works at the restaurant as a dishwashing lady.
The video was captioned: “The woman doesn’t lack money, what she lacks is things to do”.
According to China Times and Oriental Daily, the dishwashing woman is actually a wealthy woman who is washing dishes at the restaurant to kill time.
The owner of the restaurant also added that her family is actually very well off, and the woman herself said that she is working there to pass the time and not to make money.
She said that it was “very boring at home” and that she feels “uncomfortable” if she doesn’t wash dishes for a day.
The person driving the Bentley, who dropped her off at the restaurant, was later revealed to be the woman’s daughter.
Oriental Daily reported that the woman’s daughter supported her mother’s decision to work as a dishwasher by sending and fetching her to and from work every day and that she couldn’t stop her mother from wanting to “experience life”.
Netizens were quick to weigh in on the subject, with some commending the woman for being humble and diligent, not wanting to take it easy despite already amassing wealth.
Some netizens also shared other similar stories of rich people choosing to continue to work despite having enough money to retire because they can’t sit at home all day and do nothing.
However, some netizens criticised the woman, saying that she was taking up a job that could have been given to someone else who genuinely needed the job to survive.
