The alumni said that “the culture of River Valley and the general Singaporean Education system has led to this unfortunate incident”.

The alumni expressed sympathy for the killer, saying “how much trauma and stress has he gone through to drive him to do something like this.”

He said that his own experience at the school left him traumatised for years, and he still has night mares about studying in school and having to take the A levels until he woke up and remembered that he graduated.

The alumni alleged that “in my opinion, the school is elitist and they don’t seem to care very much about the mental health and welfare of the students”, adding that “accolades and accomplishments are at the top of their priority list”.
