Thousands of Singaporean families can start checking their LifeSG app from today, as the Government begins distributing S$500 Child LifeSG Credits to eligible households.

The payout, first announced during Budget 2026, is aimed at helping families cope with the costs of raising children amid rising living expenses. Eligible families will receive S$500 in credits for each Singaporean child aged 12 and below.

According to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the credits can be used for everyday expenses such as groceries, pharmacy purchases and utility payments.

Families do not need to submit any application to receive the credits.

Credits Automatically Credited Through LifeSG

The S$500 Child LifeSG Credits will be automatically deposited into the digital wallet of the child’s Child Development Account (CDA) trustee through the LifeSG app.

Children born between 2014 and 2025 are eligible for the latest payout, which starts from 14 July 2026. Families with children born in 2026 will receive their credits in April 2027 instead.

MSF said eligibility is based on its records as of 1 June 2026, and recipients will receive an SMS notification once the credits have been credited.

The ministry also reminded recipients that official messages will only come from “gov.sg” and will never ask users to reply with personal information or banking details.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that the mobile number linked to their Singpass account is updated so they can receive notifications promptly.

Part Of Budget 2026 Support Measures

The Child LifeSG Credits scheme was announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during Budget 2026 as part of a broader package aimed at supporting families.

The latest payout follows a similar initiative rolled out previously, where more than 450,000 children received S$500 in Child LifeSG Credits.

The Government has said the additional support is intended to help offset household expenses and ease the financial burden on parents.

Credits can be spent at participating merchants that accept PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR payments, including many supermarkets, pharmacies and other retail outlets across Singapore.

Netizens Question Age Cut-Off

While many parents welcomed the additional support, some Singaporeans questioned why the benefit only applies to children aged 12 and below.

Several netizens joked online that children apparently no longer need food once they turn 13, while others sarcastically suggested teenagers should simply start working.

Some commenters pointed out that older children may receive support through separate schemes instead. Last year, students aged 13 to 20 received one-off top-ups to their Edusave Accounts and Post-Secondary Education Accounts as part of earlier government support measures.

For now, families with younger children are being encouraged to check their LifeSG wallets over the coming days as the S$500 credits continue to be distributed nationwide.
