SAMBAR DEERS SPOTTED ALONG MANDAI ROAD

A netizen managed to film his encounter with Sambar deers along Mandai Road. At least a group of 4 deers were spotted on 10 Feb 2022 at around 2200 HRS.

However, netizens said that the man should not have directly pointed his flashlight at them as these animals reflect light when light shines in their eyes. It might disorient the animal and could even steer them off course and they might end up as roadkill.

What’s a Sambar Deer

According to Nparks, the Sambar Deer is one of the largest deer species in the world, after the Moose and the Elk.

It inhabits wooded habitats from dense rainforests to open deciduous forests and secondary forests and is often spotted in Mandai area. It is most active at dusk and at night, resting in the day among thick vegetation. Its diet consists of a wide variety of vegetation including grasses, leafy foliage, fruit, water plants, shrubs and trees.
