A devastating incident has shaken the community in Pantu, Sarawak, after a 32-year-old man, Lawrence Adi Raynold, was attacked and dragged into the Semeruang Bangkong River by a crocodile while fishing with his friends on Sunday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, Raynold and his three friends had walked about 40 minutes from a nearby longhouse to fish in the river. At around 5 pm, Raynold entered the river to cast his net, but was suddenly bitten on the leg by a crocodile lurking in the waters. Despite his friends’ attempts to save him, the crocodile’s strong grip proved too much, and Raynold was dragged beneath the water, never to resurface.

The friends rushed back to the longhouse and alerted the authorities, who responded promptly. However, due to the darkness, the search and rescue operation had to be halted until the following morning.

Rescue teams from the local fire and rescue department, along with the Sri Aman district police, recommenced the search operation at 8 am on Monday. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, Raynold’s body has yet to be found.
