The Ministry of Home Affairs recently shared a video on Facebook on how they clamp down on gang activities in an 8 minutes video at entertainment outlets.
In this short documentary-like video, ASP Eric explains his work and how they clamp down on activities.
In the Facebook post they wrote:
In this episode of #OnDuty, we followed ASP Eric and his officers from the Secret Societies Branch on an enforcement operation at public entertainment and nightlife establishments to clamp down on gang activities.
At one of the entertainment outlets, a man was asked if he was ever been in a secret society before. He said that he used to be and no longer in one.
ASP Eric explained that they go to entertainment premises with a lot of people to find detect secret society members.
The first location they went to was Selegie and later parts of the video showed other parts of the island which was not disclosed.
Body Checks
Conducting body checks were also done on suspected gang members for illegal items.
Two men were arrested at one of the locations as they are suspected secret society members.
At another scene, one of the men wanted to walk away might he was quickly stopped by the officers,
What does SSB do?
The Secret Societies Branch also known as SSB not only detect and stop gang activities but also conduct community outreach in schools and boy’s homes to prevent more from joining secret societies.
He state that an SSB officer works weekends and festive seasons, he said the job is very fulfilling and important to have support from he’s family.
