
A man was sentenced with a fine of S$1,000 after destroying an election poster.
48-year-old Lim Song Huat pleaded guilty earlier today under the Parliamentary Elections Act. The incident happened on the 3rd of July last year at about 9.30 AM. This was the election period, about 1 week before the election date which was July 10.
The man spotted a People’s Action Party (PAP) poster on lamb post and tried to rip the poster with a stone, the poster had an image of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Failing to rip it apart with the stone, the man then uses force to peel the poster causing the poster to be split into two parts.
Police identified the suspect after reviewing Police CCTV footages which caught Lim in the act. Police officers from Woodlands Division Headquarters managed to arrest Lim the next day at around 6.30 PM.
According to the Parliamentary Elections Act, For each charge, an offender can be jailed for up to a year or fined up to $1,000.
