While some workers may not have the opportunity to take time off during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays, one security guard in Hong Kong experienced an unexpected surprise. The guard, who was on duty during the first day of CNY, received a generous number of red packets, known as angbaos, from residents in the condominium where he worked.

The guard reportedly received 190 angbaos on the first day of CNY, with each containing approximately HK$20 (S$3.45). Over the next few days, the number of angbaos continued to grow, with the guard amassing nearly 350 by the fourth day of CNY.

According to a post on Xiaohongshu by the guard’s daughter, who is a stay-at-home mother, her father received 64 red packets on the third day of CNY, 45 on the fourth day, 48 on the fifth day, 43 on the sixth day, and 16 on the seventh day. Although the father has yet to open the red packets, the daughter estimated that they contain either HK$10 (S$1.73) or HK$20 (S$3.45), totaling approximately HK$3,800 (S$656).
