33 year old Malaysian, Ganesan Gunasagaran was charged in court for trying to solicit a bribe, putting someone in fear of harm by extorting the person as well as impersonating a Police Officer.
At the time of his offence on 19 Oct 2021, Ganesan was working as a senior security officer along 119 West Coast Crescent at Seahill Condominium.
His alleged actions
A man had went into the Condominium when Ganesan was on duty without checking in via his Tracetogether application and this was when Ganesan struck.
He first tried to solicit a bribe from the man before telling him that he was working undercover as a high-ranking officer inside the Police’s Licensing Sector.
Subsequently, he tried to extort a sum of $10,000 from the man and also told the man that investigations will be taken against him for entering the condo illegally as he did not check in via Tracetogether and also for illegally having relations with a student inside the condo’s toilet.
Did everything on Whatsapp
Ganesan in court spoke through a Tamil interpreter and said that his mistakes were because the communications were all through Whatsapp.
He said that he had only asked the guy how come he did what he did and asked if he had done this before elsewhere.
He admitted to his doings but said that he did not receive any monetary gains in the end.
He also said that he was not intending to plead guilty and because of that the case is now fixed for a pre-trial conference.
A bail of $20,000 was offered to Ganesan and he is set to return to court the following month.
