This unexpected bout of road rage unfolded on Oct 31, 2022, near Old Tampines Road, leaving onlookers stunned and a passer-by recording the heated exchange that later went viral on social media.

What happened?

Teo, cruising in his Mercedes-Benz with a friend, faced a roadblock on his usual route home due to ongoing roadworks. What started as a simple detour quickly escalated when Teo, attempting to navigate the unfamiliar route, found himself blocking a bus bay along Flora Road.

As Mr. Koo, steering the SBS Transit bus, encountered Teo’s obstructing car, he sounded the horn and flashed headlights to signal the issue. Teo moved slightly forward but remained within the bay, prompting Mr. Koo to attempt to move the bus again. The situation took a turn for the worse as Teo refused to yield, and a series of horn honks ensued.

The Confrontation Escalates

Undeterred, Teo abandoned his car and approached Mr. Koo’s bus, knocking on the window and shouting. Mr. Koo wisely refrained from engaging and reported the incident to the bus operations control center. The confrontation caused a temporary traffic standstill, with Teo’s friend halting her car to check on the unfolding drama.

Returning to his car, Teo continued his tirade, hurling vulgarities at Mr. Koo. He then attempted to force entry into the bus, escalating the chaos. Despite Mr. Koo recording the incident on his mobile phone, Teo managed to wrest the device away, adding a new layer of intensity to the confrontation.

Teo, in a state of panic, boarded the bus, further intensifying the situation. Fearing physical harm, Mr. Koo raised his arm in defense. Teo’s friend intervened, persuading him to leave the bus, but not before Teo flung the confiscated phone to the ground, leaving Mr. Koo in disbelief.

Legal Repercussions

The drama did not end on the road; Teo faced legal consequences. On Nov 21, 2022, he was sentenced to five days in jail, fined $3,000, and disqualified from driving for a month. The incident shed light on the importance of maintaining composure on the roads and the repercussions of road rage.

The day after the incident, Mr. Koo reported the episode to the police, leading to Teo’s identification through the viral video. This highlights the role of technology in ensuring accountability and serves as a cautionary tale for those tempted to engage in road rage.
